§ 03 · A short list, honestly

If any of this sounds like you, you’re in the right place.

  • You feel a little awkward in front of cameras and want a photographer who makes that disappear.
  • You want to be present at your own wedding, not directed through it like a photoshoot.
  • You want to know the price before anyone asks for your phone number.
  • You don’t want to spend months after your wedding wondering where your photos are.
§ 04 · Proof, verifiable

“Joel is the absolute best photographer you will find in Chico. We immediately knew quality was his top priority… his guidance for uncomfortable people in front of the camera was perfect.”

Same couple in every frame. A real Chico-area wedding day, in order, from getting ready to the exit. This is the floor, not a greatest-hits ceiling.

§ 07 · The horror stories

You have read the horror stories. So have we.

“Photographers who go silent for months after the wedding.”
“Galleries that come back looking nothing like the portfolio.”
“Vendors who won’t name a price until you’ve sat through a sales call.”

We built our whole process against that list.

One photographer. Your whole story.

I photograph your wedding myself, start to finish. After 10+ years and 300+ weddings I know when to direct, when to disappear, and how to make two slightly nervous people look like the most relaxed version of themselves. Video is available with every wedding, and a second photographer can be added when your day calls for one, but you’ll always know exactly who is showing up and what you’re getting.

— 02

I know Chico.

The Barn at Pheasant Trail Ranch, Iron Gate Gardens, Centerville Estates, Bidwell Park, backyards out in the valley: this is home. I know where the light goes in the evening, where to stand when it’s 105 in July, and which corners of this county photograph like a national park.

You’ll never have to chase me.

Sneak peeks within 24 hours. Your full gallery in 4 weeks. And updates from me before you think to ask for them. You got married; your job is not to project-manage your photographer.

§ 10 · Included with every collection

Your wedding day, perfectly timed. Included.

Every couple I book gets DayFlow, the timeline app I built after 300+ weddings of watching day-of schedules flow or fall apart. You build your minute-by-minute timeline in about twenty minutes, share one live link with your whole vendor team, get day-of reminders, and ask its planner-trained AI anything: tipping math, who walks first when parents are divorced, how much alcohol 150 guests actually drink. Real answers grounded in 140+ sources, not chatbot guesses.

I sell DayFlow publicly at weddingdayflow.com. My couples get it free. If you’re planning without a full planner, or your venue’s coordinator hands out template timelines, this is the difference between a day that runs and a day that rushes.

§ 12 · The photographer
Joel of North Rim Photography adjusting a bride's train while photographing a wedding

I’m Joel. I’ll be the calm one.

I’ve photographed 300+ weddings over the last 10+ years, most of them within an hour of Chico. I carry two cameras all day, each writing to two memory cards, because your day does not get a re-shoot. The thing couples tell me most often: “I forgot you were even there.”

And I’ve stood exactly where you’re standing: I’m married, and I know how fast this day moves from the other side of the camera. It’s why I fight so hard to keep yours unhurried.

§ 13 · Questions

What couples ask before they inquire.

What does a wedding cost?

Weddings start at $3,995 and the package details are right on this page. The call exists to customize your quote, not to reveal the secret price. You’ll never get a “let’s hop on a call to discuss your vision” runaround from me about money.

When do we actually get our photos?

Sneak peeks within 24 hours. Full gallery in 4 weeks. And here’s the part that matters: I send you status updates along the way, before you ask. You will never have to send the “just checking in on our photos!” email.

We’re awkward in front of cameras. Really awkward.

Most of my couples are. Direction is most of my job: small prompts, real moments, no stiff posing. The thing couples tell me most often is “I forgot you were even there.”

Do we have to do a first look?

No. Some couples love them, some want the aisle to be the first time; both photograph beautifully. I build the photo plan around your day. You will never be steamrolled into a moment you didn’t want because it was convenient for the camera.

What happens if you get sick on our wedding day?

I have an extensive backup network of professional wedding photographers; we step in for each other when someone gets sick or a family emergency hits. It’s uncommon, but things happen, and the contract protects you either way: your day gets covered, and your retainer is never lost to my emergency. That’s a promise.

What’s your backup plan, for your gear and for our photos?

On the day: two cameras on my harness at all times, two more backup cameras in my bag. Every camera writes to two memory cards simultaneously, so from the second I press the shutter your photos exist in two places. When I get home, the cards back up to a working SSD and again to an archive drive, and the cards don’t get wiped until your gallery is delivered. Your photos live in three places before you ever see them.

How are the photos edited?

True to color. The oranges you chose look orange; the colors you spent months picking show up as themselves. My editing emphasizes the day, the mood, and the light. It doesn’t repaint them. And your 24-hour sneak peeks double as a check-in: if you want the edit adjusted, tell me then, and your full gallery gets finished exactly how you want it.

Do we get the RAW files?

Yes, for an additional fee. Just tell me before your final gallery is delivered. No mystery, no refusal, no “no professional releases RAWs” lecture.

How do you make sure you don’t miss important people?

Before the wedding you give me a moments list (usually the five most important people, more is fine) with current photos of them if you have some. They come with me in a file on the day. And if I somehow can’t spot someone, I find out who they are right there so they’re in the photos throughout the day. Grandma does not get missed.

Is your portfolio real?

Every photo on this site is from a real wedding or session I shot. No AI, no stock, no styled shoots passed off as weddings. Ask any couple on this page, or read the 80 five-star Google reviews.

Do you do video too?

Yes: photo and video, planned together so they tell the same story. Video is an add-on, and if your day needs a second photographer we’ll talk about it on the call so you know exactly what you’re booking.

How do we book, and what happens after we do?

A $1,000 retainer and a signed contract reserve your date; dates are first come, first served. The balance is due 30 days before the wedding. When you’re ready, I send a link to your own private client portal with your package details, the contract, and a secure card payment link. And every couple gets DayFlow, my wedding-day timeline app, free. You’ll have your day-of timeline built and shared with your vendors before anyone asks you “so what time should I show up?”
